Position sensors

Caldaro has been supplying sensors since the early 80’s, which has been the stepping stone for our further product development of joysticks, pedals and grips. In the very beginning, it was only potentiometers with wire-wound or conductive plastic-type in both rotating and linear versions. The contactless technology (hall effect and inductive) has evolved and is now used in many different sensor types, both rotating and linear.

Caldaro Position sensors

The sensors are made in single and multi-turn versions as well as linear motion. Within these groups, you will find different technologies for sensors such as potentiometer, Hall effect, inductive in combination with different housings, sizes and shapes suited for the diverse needs and applications.

We offer more than 70 base models, each of them with numerous adaptation possibilities. The majority of our sensors has a modular design and offer a very cost-effective way to meet particular application requirements, not only when the quantity is several thousand but also for volumes of only 10 pieces or so.

Our sensors are used in many different applications such as Maritime, Material Handling, Forestry; see the Applications section for more info. With these sensors, we meet the different requirements for IP-sealing, vibrations and shock that have to be fulfilled in harsh environments.

All our sensors are well known for their high quality and precision in combination with outstanding tolerances of linearity. If you are searching for sensors in a safety-critical application, we can offer many ways to reach a high level of redundancy. The service life of our sensors is for some models higher than 100 million operations.

Contactless sensors

Our contactless sensors are often integrated into joysticks, mini steering wheels and steering arms etc. Since the sensor has no mechanical contact between the sensing element and the rotating part, it is very well suited for applications with tough demands regarding vibrations, shock, sealing and offers an operating lifetime of more than 100 million operations.

Two different technologies are used in contactless sensors, hall effect and inductive. These usually require a stabilised 5 VDC power supply. Mechanical and electrical interfaces can be tailored according to the requests as well as the output signals. The hall effect sensors can offer many combinations of analoge or serial signals for redundancy and also in combination with switch signals.

Optical Sensor Bearing S09

The optical sensor bearing S09 can be used for any application with long linear movements where the exact position is essential. It is commonly used in forklift trucks in warehouses with the exact heights of the shelves programmed, so that the operator can just press a button to reach a shelf at a specific height.

The product is based on an innovative, patented system with two optical sensors making it possible to tell in which direction the sensor is rotating.

Linear sensors

Within these group, you will find different technologies for sensors such as potentiometer, hall effect, inductive.

Our program of linear sensors consists of more than 15 base models, each of them with numerous adaptation possibilities. The majority of our sensors have a modular design and offer a very cost-effective way to meet special application requirements, not only when the quantity is several thousand but also for volumes of only 10 pieces or so.

Our sensors are used in many different applications such as Maritime, Linear actuators etc. With these sensors, we meet the different requirements for IP-sealing, vibrations and shock that have to be fulfilled in harsh environments.

We always put quality in the first room, which also shows the precision and linearity performance of the sensors. You will find many options for stroke lengths, output signals, connectors, cables, mounting options, shaft designs etc.

Potentiometers

The potentiometer is suitable for measuring angles in several applications.

The element in the single turn potentiometers can be either of wire-wound or conductive plastic-type. The wire-wound type offers the best total resistance value and stability of the different types of potentiometers available. It is possible to use them as rheostats. Please note, however, that the resolution and frequency characteristics (usable up to about 20 kHz) are rather limited.

The conductive plastic-type offers great resolution and life expectancy, and high-speed tracking availability. This type is, however, limited to the voltage divider method.

The single-turn potentiometer can be specified with different total resistance values and tolerances as well as linearity, different output signals such as 10-90% and mechanical and electrical angles. Furthermore, we can tailor the shaft to almost any shape desirable, and rear extended shafts are available on some models. Potentiometer sizes from 12–50 mm in diameter are available. IP rating up to IP 65 is available on request for most of our potentiometer models.
